Water of Life for a Troubled World

January (Aquarius) 2010

The planet is completing a cycle which leads everything to summation. The time is coming when each principle must manifest its entire potential. These rings are looked upon in history as downfall or renascence. But these rhythms must be regarded as the triumph of Light or darkness. The time has come when the planet is drawing near to such a circle of summation, and only the most saturated tension of the potential will result in victory. The circle of summation awakens all energies, for in the final battle all the forces of Light and darkness will take part, from the very Highest down to the dregs. Sensitive spirits know why there is being manifested so much of the Higher, side by side with the guilty and the inert. In the conflict, before the circle of summation there will be contentions of all spatial, earthly and supermundane Forces. On the path to the Fiery World the co-workers must remember the Ordinance of the Cosmos.

Fiery World III, par. 350, Agni Yoga Society, New York City

To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good…For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body…The eye cannot say to the hand, ‘I have no need of you,’ nor again the head to the feet, ‘I have no need of you.’…If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.

1 Corinthians 12:12-26

Dear Friends,

It is auspicious that the first Solar Festival of the New Year and the New Decade is the Solar Festival of Aquarius, notably reminding us of the energies of the New Age into which we are moving—energies which offer the opportunity (which must be actualized) for a new and better way of life—one of cooperation, unity, and an understanding of the science and nature of the Soul—the liberating essence within every living thing.

However, as those who tread the spiritual Path can attest, as one articulates a new spiritual intention and prepares to realize a new spiritual opportunity, so is that intention and every fibre of one’s life challenged and tested as to the depth and earnestness of the intention and the ability of the individual, group or nation to measure up to the new opportunity.

And, so it seems that humanity has been challenged very early in the New Year through the current disaster that has befallen Haiti—that member of the world community referred to by the author, Mark Danner, as “everybody’s cherished tragedy”—a country, he writes, generally viewed “as a kind of sacrificial victim among nations, nailed in its bloody suffering to the cross of unending destitution.”

In a recent article within The New York Times, referring to his recent book, Stripping Bare the Body: Politics, Violence, War, which chronicles political conflict in Haiti, the Balkans, Iraq and the United States, Mr. Danner makes the important point that Haiti’s “formidable immiseration” is a result—not of the recent terrifying and dreadful act of nature, which the earthquake surely was. Instead, he points out, the profundity of the current tragedy is due to past preventable human acts of corruption, predation and plunder thrust upon this tiny island nation by those who over the centuries sought power over its resources and people, which as early as 1804 provided a global symbol of unimaginable triumph as it liberated itself by defeating three Western armies, including those of Napoleonic France.

As the tragic events in Haiti unfold, the massive international response has demonstrated the good that is possible when the United Nations and the world community partner to meet a crisis.

For example, MINUSTAH—the UN Stabilization Mission in Haiti has the responsibility to coordinate efforts and ensure security, the World Health Organization reports setting up 150 health facilities, UNICEF focuses on bringing water, sanitation, health, nutrition and safety to the children of the country, the World Food Program, has set itself the goal of distributing food assistance to two million Haitians as well as providing logistical telecommunications support to the entire humanitarian community; this, while the Executive Director Josette Sheeran refers to Haiti’s devastated infrastructure as the most challenging that WFP has ever faced, stating also that “this is the most complex operation WFP has ever been involved in.”

Among the many other UN rescue efforts is OCHA, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, whose website provides the latest information, including the latest reference maps such as “Population Movements out of Port-au-Prince” and “Affected Areas” as well as logistical and informational maps from various UN agencies and organizations and other aid agencies.

The UNDP Flash Appeal seeks to support a program called “Cash for Work” which will employ Haitians to remove debris from the streets and engage them in reconstruction projects, thus providing in the words of Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, “the social concrete and mortar that will hold Haiti together in this time of extreme stress.”

Additionally, the UN News Service reports on all new developments undertaken throughout the UN System.

Participating in and witnessing the UN’s rescue effort and, for the most part, the great synergistic movement striving to “build Haiti back even better than before,” one cannot help but realize what a tremendous potential for good lies within this noble institution when united by one common purpose.

Because the sun is now in the sign of Aquarius, we recall that the symbol of Aquarius (and the Aquarian Age) is that of a human being bearing a jar of water so full that it pours over to all and sundry and yet it diminishes not. Often two streams pour out of the jar. These symbolize the perpetual flowing of the universal energies of love and “life more abundant”—available to all who undergo the cleansing and purifying process that would prepare the form for the reception of these energies.

The keynote for Aquarius is “Water of Life Am I Poured Forth for Thirsty Men.” Identifying with every form in every kingdom, the Aquarian recognizes the underlying bond which holds all together. Working with others in a subjective, telepathic and synthetic manner, the Aquarian consecrates her/himself to the welfare of humanity and the planet, ever seeking the good of the whole.

Do not the current activities in response to the Haitian crisis epitomize the pouring forth of this water of life? (For some descriptive commentary on this keynote, click here.)

As we seek to understand the esoteric significance of these current events, we are reminded too that the word “spiritual” relates to the expansion or evolution of consciousness; it refers to the spark of knowingness, the spark of consciousness at the heart of every individual. All activity—be it physical, emotional, intuitional and so forth—that leads towards greater perfection, goodness and wholeness is therefore spiritual.

Using the meditation outline, “The Spiritual Work of the United Nations and the Liberation of Humanity,” will you join us as together we will strive to cooperate with the Great Evolutionary Forces and Beings who seek to bring the abundant waters of life to a prepared world and a prepared humanity? Will you join in this effort to ensure the triumph of Light over darkness, so that planet Earth and all its inhabitants may experience a renascence instead of downfall?

For those of you who live within the vicinity of the United Nations, you are invited to meet in silent meditation from Noon until 12:30 p.m. in the UN Meditation Room on Friday, 29 January. Discussion will follow outside the Meditation Room from 12:30 – 1:15 p.m.

As in the past, those of us who live outside the New York City area have the opportunity to contribute to this work by using the above meditation from our respective locations. Also, everyone is invited to use the meditation weekly, every Friday. Please inquire if you need a copy of the meditation outline available in several languages.

The dates for the meditation meetings of 2010 are posted here; we encourage you to take every opportunity to participate.

We also hope that you will continue to work with and help circulate the YouTube video featuring the Great Invocation and photos of the UN General Assembly and the UN Meditation Room under the theme of Reconciliation and the Healing of the Nations.

We look forward to reading your thoughts and postings within the UN Discussion Forum.

Thank you once again to those of you who sent your heart-felt Christmas, holiday and New Year greetings and good wishes—all of which are deeply appreciated. We also wish to express our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to those of you who have generously given your support both subjectively and financially so that the work of the Aquarian Age Community can continue.

We leave you with the following parable which to our thinking captures well the essence of the energies of Aquarius:

Past the seeker as she prayed, came the crippled and the beggar, the beaten and the downtrodden. And seeing them, the holy one went down into deep prayer and cried in anguish, 'Great God, how is it that a loving Creator can see such things and yet do nothing about them?' And out of the long silence, God responded, 'But, my child, I did do something, I made you.'

Just as we have created the world in which we live—by our thoughts, behavior and emotional responses, so we can create something better. As St. Paul taught, to each of us is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the Common Good.
