A World Brotherhood of Nations and the Spiritual Work of the United Nations

April 2007

The unification to which the forward looking people aspire does not involve the neglect of any part, but it does involve the care and nurture of each part in order that it may contribute to the well being of the entire organism. It involves, for instance, the right government and proper development of every national unit so that it can adequately perform its international duties, and thus form part of a world brotherhood of nations.

The Tibetan Master, Djwhal Khul in A Treatise on White Magic, by Alice A. Bailey

Dear Friends,

It is difficult for most people to conceive of a time when “a world brotherhood of nations” will become a realized fact; yet, such a vision is one of humanity’s longest held dreams. And, in spite of the outer seeming, as we have been writing within this monthly letter over the past several years, many of those who today dedicate their lives to the realization of such a dream work either directly within or in support of the United Nations.

This fact was quite evident in a recent briefing, held at the United Nations for newly accredited NGOs. At this briefing, information was presented about the many programs and projects underway within the United Nations System and the many available studies and publications that provide up-to-date facts, figures and trends about every conceivable aspect of human life. See, for example, United Nations Publications.

The City of Man—as the late historian Warren Wagar referred to this vision, can be found as a thread, woven throughout history and across all cultures.

Humanity progresses from stage to stage of enlightenment and from glory to glory, affirms the Tibetan Master, in the book, Education in the New Age. He continues, “we are today on our way to a far better civilization than the world has ever known and towards conditions which will ensure a much happier humanity and which will see the end of national differences, of class distinctions (whether based on an hereditary or a financial status) and which will ensure a fuller and richer life for everyone.” (pp. 90-91)

Seeking to join the stream of those who labor to achieve this lofty goal of a “world brotherhood of nations,” we invite you to participate in an upcoming program within the United Nations on

How Can Global Consciousness Respond to the Cry of the Least Developed Countries?

Honoring the Festival of Humanity and World Invocation Day, this seminar will take place on Thursday, 31 May from 1:30 – 4:00 p.m. Sponsored by the UN Office of the High Representative of the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (UN-OHRLLS) in partnership with the Aquarian Age Community and with the support of other NGO organizations, the seminar will feature keynote talks, sacred art, meditation and audience participation. More information will be provided as the program date nears; however, we wanted to give you lead time so that you can plan to participate.

The upcoming Solar Festival of Aries is a most propitious time in which to begin preparations for this seminar and you are invited to join with us at this time to work with the fiery, cosmic energies that will flood our planet from the sign of Aries, which according to the Ageless Wisdom, “initiates the cycle of manifestation.” The first impulse is awakened in Aries and it is under the influence of this sign that the initial idea to institute activity takes form. Aries is the birthplace of ideas, and a true idea is in reality a spiritual impulse taking form—subjectively and objectively. (Esoteric Astrology, p. 92)

Ideas are as attractive, magnetic centers of force; they are the seeds of the new life. The ideas upon which each of us focus reverberate through the subjective field—the etheric or energy body surrounding the planet, coloring and influencing the substance from which others draw their thoughts. Before it can impact the concrete mind and take form on the emotional and physical planes, an idea must gain viability and potency by the presence of other analogous ideas in the minds of many. Thus, group meditation and unified thinking is pivotal to the adoption of a new, progressive idea.

Will you therefore join with us in meditation as we meet within the United Nations Meditation Room this Monday, April 2nd from Noon until 12:30, to silently meditate on “The Spiritual Work of the United Nations and the Liberation of Humanity,” and for discussion afterwards until 1:00 p.m.? Open to the public, this "Room of Quiet" is located next to the Information Center in the UN Visitor's Lobby, at 46th Street and 1st Avenue.

We count on those of you who cannot travel to New York City to join in our efforts by linking in meditative thought. The meditation form on “The Spiritual Work of the United Nations and the Liberation of Humanity”, which is used at these monthly meditation meetings and weekly on Friday, is available to you in Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Russian, and, of course, in English. We end the meditation by visualizing the synthetic outpouring of Light, Love and the Will-to-Good throughout the planet, irradiating and infusing the consciousness of the whole human race.

The new quote of the month along with its accompanying “Cosmic Image” will be available on the first of the month.

The new Diamond Light is also posted, as is a new entry within the “Restoration of the Mysteries” web site section, under the theme of “Reflections on Initiation.”

We look forward to reading your ideas and feedback within the UN Discussion Forum—a service opportunity wherein each of you can help further the idea of a “world brotherhood of nations” or post other ideas related to the spiritual work of the United Nations.
