The Spiritual Work of the United Nations and the Liberation of Humanity
Humanity's Free Will and The Spiritual Work of the United Nations
Release for humanity will come when the so-called good people of the world give up their pet theories and their beloved ideals and grasp the essential fact that entry into the Kingdom of Heaven and into the new age will take place when mankind is truly loved and selflessly served, and when the true, divine purpose is seen and humanity is found to be one indivisible whole. Then petty nationalisms, religious differences and selfish idealisms (for that is what they often are as most people are idealists because they seek to save their own souls) are subordinated to human need, human good and the future happiness of the whole. The simplification of the attitude of men is the crying need at this time. Ideologies must go; old ideals must be relinquished; petty political, religious and social schemes must be discarded, and the one driving purpose and the one outstanding determination must be the release of humanity from the imposition of fear, from enforced slavery and the reinstatement of men in freedom and with due opportunity to express themselves through right human relations.
The Tibetan Master, Djwhal Khul in The Externalisation of the Hierarchy by Alice A. Bailey
It is the appalling situation of terror, of slavery and of imposed and penalising rule, which is breaking the heart of humanity and causing deep distress and questioning in those whose hearts are not yet so broken.
In a New York Times article dated August 6th, Michael Slackman described the effect of the current Middle East war on the people of Egypt. He poignantly wrote, "The hopelessness has begun to boil over... They are feeling the powerlessness of living under an autocratic system, and confronting the poverty and corruption of their third-world economy."
If the world needed yet more definitive examples of the hellish atrocities unleashed by war, these are graphically described and visible on a daily basis via every media outlet of our day—not just in the current crisis in the Middle East, but in the uncountable hot spots and troubled areas of our world. As an infectious high fever, war is breaking out over the entire planet.
Through the suffering on every hand, humanity is gaining deepened insight about the nature and consequences of the forces at play in the global traumas of the day. Increasingly, the unequivocal point of decision is becoming clear. Standing for the freedom of the human soul, for the rights of the individual, for brotherhood and right human relations, the Forces of Light are in direct conflict with the forces of materialistic aggression—standing for cruelty, greed, selfish desire and aggressive acquisitiveness.
The conflict is of ancient lineage, yet the lines of demarcation are becoming clearer to greater numbers of humanity who are awakening and refusing to be enslaved and oppressed.
Calling for an end to the "horrendous situation" and for an immediate cease fire to the current violence in the Middle East, Secretary-General Kofi Annan recently affirmed the ineffectiveness and destructive miseries of war: "I'm one of those who believes that in war all are losers, including the so-called victorious because you have to do lots of things as a human being you would not want to do and even when you win, when you look back and count what you had to do to win, the destruction, the misery, the pain inflicted on your own people and on the other side, you have to wonder if that was the best way or the only way to solve ... a problem." (Secretary General Kofi Annan on Larry King Live, July 21, 2006)
Interviewed on the Charlie Rose program on Friday, August 04, 2006, Prime Minister Fouad Siniora presented the current crisis in the Middle East as an opportunity for drastic and transformational change—not only in the Middle East, but also in the world. His hope and positive attitude, he said, came from his belief in humanity and from his belief in the "cooperation of civilization".
His presentation of this current crisis as a potential moment of opportunity for the world-wide community is the great hope and strong desire of all the men and women of goodwill and of all the spiritually-aware people of the world and it is the objective of daily striving of all within the New Group of World Servers.
Those of us who are seeking to strengthen the Spiritual Work of the United Nations and striving to work with the Forces of Light on our planet can find direct assistance in the available energies this month from the sign of Leo—the sign which the Ageless Wisdom describes as the "battleground of the Forces of Materialism and the Forces of Light."
The Leo energy can inspire within humanity either "the will-to-illumine", which provides the incentive and driving urge towards self-knowledge, self-perception and positive intellectualism, or it can influence the will-to-rule and to dominate. Being a part of the Fixed Cross in the heavens, the Leo energies can bring light and liberation. As the treatise on Esoteric Astrology, explains, "emanating from Leo, are the 'fires of God'—cosmic, solar and planetary—producing purification, the intensification of the light and eventual revelation to the purified man who stands in light." (p. 293)
When the work of purification has taken place under the influence of the Leo energies, humanity can then overcome personal desire and respond with sensitivity and compassion to world conditions, aiding in the liberation of humanity. Towards this end we encourage all who read these words to strive and work.
One such way to strive and work is to use the meditation outline, "The Spiritual Work of the United Nations and the Liberation of Humanity." Please inquire if you are not yet using this outline and know that it is available in several languages.
Those of you who are in the New York City area are invited to use the United Nations Meditation Room of Quiet, especially at Noon during that time of the month when the cosmic energies reaching planet earth are especially powerful. This month the Solar Festival of Leo (the day of the Full Moon) takes place on Wednesday, August 9th.
Because of the influence of the Dog-star, Sirius in the sign of Leo, the August Quote of the Month is accompanied by "X-Rays from Sirius B"—the companion star to that "celestial beacon" which is only eight light-years away from planet Earth and detected not because of its brilliant light but because of its gravitational influence.
May strength and enlightenment be yours and may the power to stand in spiritual being empower each of you as you persevere in your cooperative contributions to the Forces of Light,
