Building a Culture of Peace and the Evolution of Consciousness

Seminar; Wednesday, 2 June 2004; 3:00 P.M.- 6:00 P.M.

Visualization and Guided Imagery1

For the next few minutes, I would like to invite you to participate in a guided visualization activity. In this activity, I will ask you to engage your active imagination, remembering that imagination is the seed of buddhi or intuition and eventually of that state of bliss known in the East as Samadhi. There are a few stages to this visualization through which I will lead you, and you will know that we've come to the end of our ten minutes when I ask you to open your eyes.

So, if you would close your eyes, and begin by just becoming aware of the soft, constant, rhythmic nature of your breathing; As you pay attention to the cycles of your breathing, allow yourself to relax, and with each cycle of the in breath attempt to go a little deeper into your own inner consciousness; and with each cycle of the out breath allow yourself to release any anxiety or worry you may be holding and release any negative or destructive thoughts and feelings you may be carrying. With each in breath allow yourself to become more and more identified with that part of you that is your Compassionate Observer, your Soul or your Higher Self, your source of Light and Love.

In this serene, yet alert state of consciousness, allow yourself free reign of the highest or deepest imagination of which you are capable and consider if you would, a Culture of Peace as the externalization or the effect of the most sacred, most honoured and most universally compassionate way of life that you—at this moment in time—can imagine.

Next, imagine that this Culture of Peace already exists; that it is vital and alive on the inner planes of consciousness; it lives within side of you, inside this room, within the UN, within your nation State and within our planet. Experience yourself embracing it and immersing yourself in it.

Consider how you would behave, feel, think—and BE within such a Culture of Peace. Holding it steadfast, focus clearly, precisely, lovingly and with purpose on your vision of a Culture of Peace.

When you are ready, bring your consciousness back into the room and open your eyes.

Please be mindful of your vision, staying connected to it, throughout this meeting and, if you like, you will have an opportunity to share your experience during the audience participation part of today's program.

Our hope is that you will retain this experience, build on it and seek out ways to vitalize and actualize your vision from today onwards for the rest of your life.
