How Can the Spiritual Dimensions of Science and Consciousness Help the UN and Humanity Achieve Better Standards of Life in Larger Freedom?

Seminar; Thursday, 26 May 2005; 3:00-6:00 p.m.

Welcome to the Seminar

Dr. Ida Urso, Ph.D
Co-Chair, Subcommittee on the Spiritual Dimensions of Science and Consciousness

Dear Friends, on behalf of the Spiritual Dimensions of Science and Consciousness Subcommittee, I extend a hearty welcome to each of you! Thank you for your interest in this program and thank you for being here, today! It is heartening to see such a positive and enthusiastic response to the theme of this Seminar.

All of us who have been planning this program for the past several months are most eager, as I know all of you are, to hear from our very distinguished guest speakers and I'm so pleased they agreed to be part of this program. We're also eager to work with you this afternoon, as all of us together will consider, ways to help the United Nations on behalf of humanity achieve the goal of "better standards of life in larger freedom"—for all life on our planet.

We encourage you to view this afternoon as a sacred opportunity—to allow yourselves to be inspired and, in turn, to inspire. Eleanor Roosevelt used to remind the people of her day that the United Nations is a piece of machinery and it is up to the people of the world—each one of us—to make sure it works.

So, for the next three hours, we call on each of you to contribute your highest and best as together we consider the theme of this Seminar. And I would therefore like to begin the program by inviting each of you, as we take a moment of silence, to close your eyes and contemplate in the depths of your heart and mind, the question of this Seminar:

"How Can the Spiritual Dimensions of Science and Consciousness Help the United Nations and Humanity Achieve Better Standards of Life in Larger Freedom?"
