How Can the Spiritual Dimensions of Science and Consciousness Help the UN and Humanity Achieve Better Standards of Life in Larger Freedom?
Summary Notes of Participants' Responses The following participant responses were shared in response to the agenda of the debriefing meeting of June 2nd, either at the meeting itself or they were sent via e-mail. I left with my head spinning, my heart and soul lightened and spiritually revitalized. For me it was a vision and provided a technique for universal thinking and meditating and of course for action as long as there is life in "these here bones." Ambassador Chowdhury so clearly explained the problem of the individual national consciousnesses and goals in contrast to the true goals of the UN, which was to be the "Peoples Voice and the Peoples Home." Dr. Emoto in his wonderful presentation on water crystals, his demonstration of resonance, and the simplicity of his description of children "talking sweetly" to the water and comprehending the process of its change from ugliness and plainness to sheer beauty moved me tremendously. It is such a deep subject but it so clearly demonstrated the power of thought, individually and collectively. I think I was most moved by the realization that this simple technique and invisible process (which I believe is the secret behind prayer) was a technique that transcended the exclusivity of the various religions and yet will have to seem intrinsically right to all of them. I can imagine the whole UN thinking and visualizing all the children in the world having enough food, sufficient education, women achieving their dignified place in all societies and religions, the end of war, the preservation of the planet etc. I wish the whole UN could view this demonstration. In just the few days since the meeting, I have talked to several people, described the meeting, and they found the ideas mind blowing, simple to put to use, and suddenly aware of the potency of their own thinking. Wish PBS would sponsor this. Wish there was an outline or approach for schools to teach this—it being non denominational, it would just be a science class and couldn't cause too much of a rumpus. I was also delighted to see the number of various representatives from the various nations—Universal Solidarity; it was wonderful. Thank you again for the opportunity to be part of this happening; my soul is renewed, and I am truly re-vitalized. It does my little heart good to see such an expansive and thoughtful and active group of Spirituality-concerned folks among the NGOs. So much of what you said aligns with what I believe and what John McConnell (Earth Day Founder) espoused. While I have often stated my intention to expand my writing horizons to the global level and I committed to writing John's biography over a year ago, I continue to be amazed at the places and opportunities to where this path is leading me. Daily, I state, "Lord, I don't know where this path goes, but I trust you to lead me there." That an NGO Subcommittee involved with spirituality exists within the UN was, until ten days ago, beyond my imagination. And that is part of the message about which I want to write - while crafting Mr. McConnell's biography, of course. An example of the curves of this unseen path occurred this past Friday night when I met with the publisher and editor of a regional Michigan magazine for which I have authored many articles. Our agenda was to discuss my assignments for the upcoming season. After doing so, I shared with them, as friends, my experience at the UN and read the name of your NGO Subcommittee. The editor's face lit up. "Can you write an article about that for us?" she asked. Of course, I agreed. While world spirituality and science is a far cry from the regional people focus of this publication, the editor said, "This is exactly the kind of article we need to expand our reader's interest." Her comment tells me that a world consciousness of "right thinking" is emerging whether people are consciously aware of it or not. Good. This is just a beginning. The seeds have been planted, and I envision ever-greater growth in the near future. Very soon, nations everywhere will turn to the UN to work out the ideal of a great collective unity, interested in global good as much as they are now interested in their individual good. List of People Who Participated in theJune 2nd Meeting: Danilo Rezende Parmegiani, Eliane Maria, Sylvia Rosa, Sara Messina, Roy Burrows, Masako Tanaka, Fumie Watanabe, Phil Sauers, Noema Chaplin, Joe Annunziata, Martha Gallahue, Michele Riser, James Branch, Laxmi Shah, Maria Malaman, Ida Urso A special note of thank you goes to Sara Messina who volunteered to take notes at the June 2nd meeting. Please let us know if you have any additions/corrections to what is included below. Here is a prayer for you as you enter into your meeting this afternoon: "Great souls are they who see that spiritual is stronger than material force, that thoughts rule the world."—Ralph Waldo Emerson
"How Can the Spiritual Dimensions of Science and Consciousness Help the United Nations and Humanity Achieve Better Standards of Life in Larger Freedom?" I like this practice of a moment of silence. It fits with the Earth Day ceremonies at the UN. It allows spirituality without imposing religion. I learned that the UN is more than governmental ambassadors meeting to discuss conditions of war, and more than NGOs working to overcome hunger, pestilence, lack of education, poor health conditions, etc. This was a meeting of minds, a community dialogue. It gives inspiration to other NGO's for spiritual goals. There was a quality of hope from the seminar. The goal accomplished the opportunity to show people that there are things beyond human development. Even at the U.N. we have a higher consciousness to reach. Find a higher dimension through meditation. Dr. Emoto's talk was with respect to water and how it was utilized. I think it was profound to consider that thoughts have impact on water. It shows how important it is to be more conscious of the thoughts we choose. Because we are made up of 70% (is, it?) water, we need to be aware of how we talk to and think about each other. The question we all need to focus on is: "How can we expand our individual consciousness and be mindful of what we say and think in our thoughts?" This meeting brought spirituality into the Conference Room in a most important way. Great Work! The connection of western recognized science and consciousness was established using the work of Dr. Emoto. Also he made a point of the shift into a more feminine approach as we head into the "era of the woman". Greater awareness. I was glad to learn of the spirituality aspect of the UN. For me, this was an enlightenment that I didn't expect. I appreciate the emphasis on female energy, of which the world needs more. I benefited from networking and meeting new people after the event. The topic and Dr. Emoto. The music, tone and flowers. Ambassador Chowdhury acknowledged the need for compassion as a leading component in realizing the UN millennium goals. Compassion is definitely a trademark of the new consciousness and the act of the Divine Feminine. That everyone came together to share their thoughts around this issue. Comments of individuals; audience participation. When you organize an event, you have an expectation of what is going to happen. Agenda was followed completely. The session worked well for the most part. I had heard Dr. Emoto speak before—for three hours, with translation—and I could see how he trimmed and modified his presentation for this session; still his message was good and it worked for the time available, if it was not as comprehensive at it could have been. I wished Dr. Emoto could have projected in English; time was lost due to translation from Japanese to English. It would have been helpful to have an agenda, overview or synopsis of Dr. Emoto's talk. I strongly believe that we learn more significantly through experience than rhetoric or visuals. I would have been happy to participate and even lead the meeting in some experiential meditation or actual sound current science that each person could have understood then on a cellular level. I am a certified Kundalini Teacher and in this tradition we have many sound vibrations that are used to heal and heighten consciousness. Instead of just looking at the words LOVE and THANK YOU on the screen we could have felt the difference in our own awareness with a simple meditation. This could have been quite effective since we were meeting in the UN Meditation Room [editor's note: the seminar was held in conference room 1 and not the UN Meditation Room]. There are some excellent teachers that are available if you would like to explore more of this ancient science. There are many age-old meditations specifically for compassion and opening to receive love. When I saw the ear pieces at our individual seats, I was hoping that we would hear Dr. Emoto's message translated in real time as he spoke; oh, well. Having a date set to invite others to participate in either this subcommittee or other CSVGC (Committee on Spirituality, Values and Global Concerns) events. Having a sign for the Committee that shows working to promote Spirituality, Values and Global Concerns. One of the strongest things this Subcommittee can do is to hold the higher vibrations for consciousness as a solid practice. So that when there is confusion there may still be an avenue for higher thought. We need to keep pushing the envelope for ever higher awareness to truly be a vehicle in creative design. The Subcommittee can bring these meditations into the work with various committees and let people evolve their consciousness on the spot with each other. The yogic tradition has many practices to invoke the Great Mother's essence and if we are discussing her attributes, then purposefully bringing her into the dynamic would make the most sense. As Ambassador Chowdhury said, we need to be a world society of inclusion and diversity. By invoking the Great Mother, we are including her energy and allowing the spontaneity of new ideas to circulate between participants. These do not have to be esoteric or abstract concepts, but rather, a simple and palpable experience of the pulsation of life. Continue networking about the existence of this subcommittee. Problems cannot be solved at the level at which they are created. We must evolve to soul/love consciousness. I love all the subcommittees in concept. I am very concerned that the entire CSVGC (Committee on Spirituality, Values and Global Concerns) will get worn out with all the various subcommittees with the same people on a number of the groups. I hope that we can work together more to advance the entire committee and not just emphasize the subcommittees. Create a good brochure. Have email exchanges. Get the people that commented at the workshop involved. Concretize; get to next steps. Look at synthesis and energy flow. From Jain philosophy there is the need to balance all five elements (air, water, fire, earth, space) in our daily life. Recognize the connection between the individual, state, national, and international. Our constitution is mainly water. We are so overwhelmed; feel our emptiness so we try to escape by going to shopping malls; but the need is to go to higher consciousness. Transformation of consciousness is the key. Focus on this and let people be aware that the seminar was a beginning point. Consider: "Am I being the best that I can be; am I doing the best of which I am capable?" Outline ways to specifically raise consciousness. We know the answers; we need to experience life and love at a vibrational level. Exchange and discuss all of our methods of developing higher consciousness and spirituality with each other. Deal with the problem of our educational values. Mostly change yourself, then the external environment Have active participation of the public. Have big group meditation at the UN. I don't know enough about the UN to answer, but I'm glad that your Subcommittee exists. Create an Action Plan. We are all parts of different organizations and movements. Spread the ideas of this subcommittee. Get more speakers to share their views by challenging the spirit of the UN. This subcommittee could do something at the UN event in October—for the UN's birthday? To bring a greater spiritual presence to governmental and political decisions. To shift the apparent media focus from war and conflict to spirituality and peace. Spread this spirituality through both official and unofficial channels. Network more with other NGO's. Make them aware of what we are doing. Emphasize the importance of the individual being committed to a practice. Identify a practice that we will commit to. Keep our focus; this subcommittee is on science, spirituality and consciousness. Focus being connected to one's higher power. I think this is a good start and I fully support opening the subject further. I don't know enough about the UN to answer this question. Collaborate and network with this group. Get the press involved. Look for volunteers and do outreach. Children have a lot to offer us in the way of evolved consciousness and if we can tap into their participation a little more it could bring us leaps beyond our previous structures. I agree with Dr. Emoto that the children will resonate with what they find to be true, but in many cases, if they have been allowed their freedom and not already brainwashed by our current standards, they will show us the knowledge that they possess intrinsically. Another way to discover or unlock this existing wisdom that pervades all of existence is to call upon it intentionally. There are yogic meditations in the Naad or science of sound that accomplish this quite effectively. Link and connect with others while advancing and holding that sacred space. Support the June 22 UN Conference on Interfaith Cooperation for Peace. Create shared vision and actions to support the work of the UN. Consider, "what is your true desire? What do you want to achieve in life?" Be mindful of your desire and goals.
I want to be informed of your endeavors and participate as best I can, considering that I live in Michigan…Maybe there is a way that I can utilize my writing skills to help promote your message. I have already begun and will continue to tell my friends and family about your NGO and Subcommittee. People with whom I have spoken are impressed - and somewhat surprised -- that this Subcommittee exists. Your work is 180 degrees opposite of the media broadcast images of Colin Powell "testifying" prior to the Iraqi invasion in 2002. I think that people need to know that you exist. Let you know about activities I know about that can promote spirituality. Participate in events. I believe that this is a wonderful opportunity for humanity's growth in living standards and reaching larger freedom. However I can be of assistance is an honor to me. I am happy to offer assistance in providing information from one of the oldest known resources of higher consciousness. I am willing to offer Kundalini Yoga classes to anyone of this group who is interested. Teach the practices and wisdom of the Jain Philosophy. Include more scientists in these discussions. Practice being in a state of love consciousness all day. Share this with anyone and everyone with whom you come in contact and radiate this love to the world. Everyone comes to a spiritual concept from their own background. Connect to a life of spirituality in my day-to-day life. It is hard to stay focused on "what can I do?" The tendency and habit is to think about what someone else can and should do. Increasingly Spiritual values are becoming a global concern and we each can consider ourselves as Ambassadors of Goodwill for the UN, promoting it and supporting it in our conversations with others or in writing about its work for local papers. I enjoy reading to people the extensive and comprehensive name of your NGO Subcommittee. I will repeat that performance with friends and family tomorrow and more friends next week— all of whom will be interested.
Please keep me on your communications list. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME, LOVE AND INSPIRATION Thank you for having the foresight to bring this all together. This is such an exciting time. Let us embrace our full capacity for life, as the Hopi nation gave us the message that "we are the ones we've been waiting for."
LINKING WITH YOU IN PRAYER... I will observe a moment of silence in my office at 3:30 and 5:00 today, praying that my energy will be combined with yours. |
