Co-Chair, Subcommittee on the Spiritual Dimensions of Science and Consciousness

Dear friend and partner Ida Urso, Dear colleagues of the Spiritual Dimensions of Science and Consciousness Sub-Committee, Ladies and Gentlemen:

Good Afternoon!

On behalf of the Legion of Goodwill [of which Maria Malaman is an NGO Representative at the UN], and its President Jose de Paiva Netto, we would like to welcome all of you to this first event promoted by the Spiritual Dimensions of Science and Consciousness Subcommittee, formed by other noble organizations with consultative status with the UN. Our greetings to all participants of this seminar, which intends to be a space for fraternal and productive dialogue, debating fundamental topics for the understanding and our existence here in this Planet. This seminar intends to be a space for fraternal and productive dialogue, debating fundamental topics for the understanding and our existence here in this planet. The Subcommittee's biggest challenge is to bring together solutions and best practices within the fields of Science, Spirituality and Consciousness to address current issues related to the work of the United Nations Community and the Millennium Development Goals.

It is a great honor for the Legion of Good Will (LGW) to be part of this mission. For over 55 years, the LGW has been contributing to the solidarity development through its Educational, Social and Humanitarian programs and actions to foster Unrestricted Ecumenical Citizenship that values the Human Beings and their Eternal Spirits.

In addition to the 3 million services of assistance rendered annually in seven different countries (Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia, Portugal and the United States of America), the Legion of Good Will has been working in other fields such as the conciliation between the spiritual and scientific issues.

In this publication...you will find a full report of the LGW'S WORLD PERMANENT FORUM SPIRIT AND SCIENCE. Since the year 2000 the LGW has been promoting events developing subjects about the Spiritual Condition of the Human Being. There is a special message of the President Jose de Paiva Netto, entitled "TRANSFORMATION THROUGH SPIRITUAL CONSCIOUSNESS," page 4: "No one is happier than the one who is conscious of his/her origin which is Spiritual, as well of his/her necessity to be integrated in love. This rejoice ends up influencing Politics, Economy, Philosophy, Science, Art, Sport and Religion itself, developing a new understanding of all things, in which the Human Beings, sponte sua (which means, spontaneously) will no longer hurt, hate, kill steal, cheat, calumniate because he or she will have understood, above all, that inside of him or herself lives the Eternity of God, which is precisely LOVE. Utopia!? What is today's progress that yesterday was not considered a complete utopia!? If it is difficult, let us begin right now. Based on Love, the most perfect antidote against hatred".

Under this universal and practical love, the same love that united us here today, we envision the perfect consolidation of the promotion of the social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom, according to the charter of the UN and according to our present global challenge, to achieve the eight Millennium Development Goals.

Thank you Ida, for this friendly and dedicated partnership. Specials thank go to all the committed organizations' representatives of the Spiritual Dimensions of Science and Consciousness Sub-Committee. To Diane Williams and all companions of the Committee of Spirituality, Values and Global Concerns. We hope we may share a peaceful and productive afternoon. Thank you very much!
